Major investment to alleviate sewer flooding at East Shore in Pittenweem
Working as part of the Caledonia Water Alliance (CWA), we’ve completed the first stage of Scottish Water’s multi-million-pound investment to help reduce the risk of sewer flooding in Pittenweem.
Our team is working to upgrade the new and improved wastewater infrastructure, including a new long sea outfall, Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) chambers and upgraded pipework.
Work started in the East Shore area in January 2024, where we installed a new powered screen, designed to reduce the risk of wrongly flushed items, such as wet wipes, from ending up in the environment during heavy rainfall.
Additionally, we’ve installed a new outfall within East Harbour, directing the existing overflow from the inner harbour further out to sea. These improvements were followed by sewer lining works in East Shore and Mid Shore in mid-December 2024.
Colin Freeland, CWA Project Manager, said: “We are pleased to complete the East Shore stage of this important investment for Pittenweem. We have listened to the community and programmed our works in around their requirements
“We have used specialist contractors and divers to complete this phase of works. We would like to thank everyone involved and look forward to working with the community for the next phase.”
Caledonia Water (CWA) is a joint venture alliance between Morrison Water Services and Aecom, supporting the delivery of Scottish Water’s SR21 Capital Investment Programme. We are responsible for the delivery of a £700 million water and wastewater infrastructure programme across Scotland, over a six-year alliance framework.
