Morrison Water Services undertakes significant desilt initiative to improve sewer efficiency in Dyffryn Aedudwy’s
Our team has worked to complete a large desilt project in Dyffryn Aedudwy, Wales, on behalf of D?r Cymru Welsh Water (DCWW) .
Working with two landowners, our teams secured access to the challenging environment and adopted techniques to ensure no lasting damage to the site.
The desilting operation spanned approximately 1.2 kilometres along a 225mm diameter sewer line, across uneven marshland. Our team introduced 8000 meters of track to allow the work to be undertaken across an uneven land, and the landowners allowed access to their fields in which the sewer passed through, as well as relocating livestock for easy access to the sewer.
Our team worked alongside DCWW’s AGA team, who monitored the sewerage pumping station at the end to ensure the work being carried out didn’t affect its performance.
This project will help reduce the risk of blockages of the sewer and prevent discharging into the watercourse, ensuring it can operate at its designed capacity.
This work can also help contribute towards reducing flooding through improved conveyance through the river system.
Our team used a 32-ton recycler and an off-road Terra-Jetter to effectively manage the silt removal process. Over the course of nine days, the desilting efforts extracted around 18 tons of silt from the sewer.
Ross Davies, Project Manager at Morrison Water Services, said: “It was great to see and be part of a great team who undertook several methods to ensure the work was carried out in the most less intrusive way.
The environment is always an important factor in the work we carry out within the NOS contract and getting this project completed was a real achievement contributing to towards pollution prevention.”
