Reducing, Reusing, and Recycling PPE across M Group Services’ Water Division

16th October 2024

As part of M Group Services’ commitment to enhance the sustainability of its operations, contracts from across our Water Division have been recycling Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Each year, as a Water Division, we order over 51,000 items of PPE. The PPE recycling scheme enables all types of PPE, including hard hats, boots and gloves, to be recycled.

Created in partnership with PF Cusack, a nationwide supplier of contractors’ tools, PPE, road traffic management and other products used in a wide range of industries, our PPE is turned into car roof insulation, panel linings and compressed mattress fillings. PPE that cannot be recycled is used as solid recoverable fuel instead.

Our Smart Metering team on our Thames Water contract have further adopted the recycling PPE scheme, by cleaning and reusing via a laundrette service. The recycling scheme not only benefits the environment, but is also cost effective, with a saving of over £9,280.

As we look to the future, contracts across our Division are also looking to adopt the recycling of safety barriers, traffic cones, metal and plastic signage.

Speaking on the recycling scheme, Danny Painter, Group Procurement Project Lead, said: “We are pleased to see how the Group-wide PPE recycling scheme is helping the Water Division work efficiently.

“Recycling something as fundamental as PPE is a great way to cut carbon emissions. The recycling stations are located at our depots and offices throughout the UK, making it straightforward for our people to recycle their redundant PPE and workwear.”

Across M Group Services, we are passionate about finding sustainable solutions which have a lasting impact on our planet, in line with our Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) commitments.

Back to all.
