21ST CENTURY SITE SECURITY

BACKGROUND:

Morrison Water Services is working with its client Thames Water and supplier Wireless Closed-circuit Television (WCCTV) to reduce security costs and
provide essential site protection.

PROJECT OBJECTIVES:

• Remove safety risks for security guards in remote locations.

• Use technology to provide essential security.

• Reduce carbon emissions and site costs.

• Have high-definition (HD) coverage on high-risk locations 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

DETAIL:

Morrison Water Services has started using HD CCTV towers on its Thames Water contract. The seven-metre tall, bright yellow site towers provide an obvious deterrent, helping to prevent trespassers. These towers are easy to deploy and can be used temporarily or permanently, meeting the changing requirements of the business. This surveillance solution includes integrated 4G transmission of video and alarms, a HD infrared camera that provides 360 degree coverage as well as audio speakers. Site towers are also fitted with motion detectors which, when triggered, send an alert to site managers’ smartphones.

Project managers can access the site’s live video footage. In addition, the system has built-in speakers that allow audio alerts to be sent to site if necessary. Having this surveillance solution in place eliminates the need for onsite security, reducing project costs by up to 86%. This is a high-quality system that is reliable and sustainable. The cameras use solar powered batteries helping reduce carbon emissions. Using these cameras is also beneficial as they can act as learning tools to review footage and ensure best practices are being followed.

Tom Shanahan, Project Manager on Morrison Water Services’ Thames Water contract, said:
