EMERGENCY POLLUTION RESPONSE
29th March 2021
KEY ASPECTS OF DELIVERY
Once onsite, it soon became apparent the resultant flooding posed a potential significant environmental threat to nearby rivers and properties. Battling difficult weather and ground conditions, the team worked alongside D?r Cymru Welsh Water colleagues through the night to put a temporary fix in place enabling the sewage treatment works to return to full operational use, and minimise any escalation of the flood risk. What was to become a five-week clean-up operation began early the following day, with immediate attention given to two affected nearby properties and a large area within the works.
Following the temporary repair, crews worked day and night until a permanent repair was undertaken. Throughout this time, the teams monitored the site around the clock to ensure no further incidents occurred.
"The ground and weather conditions that our teams were working against were horrendous and for ten straight days they worked tirelessly to deliver an outstanding level of service to our client. All in all, this was a great team effort from everyone involved on the wastewater contract who worked closely and collaboratively with various D?r Cymru Welsh Water departments."
