Celebrating World Environment Day with Yorkshire Water’s Living With Water Schemes

5th June 2024

On this World Environment Day, we are excited to highlight the incredible work we are doing in partnership with Yorkshire Water through the Living With Water schemes.

Recently, we implemented Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) on Rosmead Street in Hull. Our team delivered Hull's first permeable paved street, designed to protect homes from recurrent surface water flooding. This innovative drainage scheme is a significant step towards enhancing the city's resilience to extreme weather events.

Our commitment extends beyond infrastructure improvements. To show our appreciation for St. John’s Church's generosity and support during the project, we sponsored the regeneration of their communal garden. This involved clearing and resurfacing the overgrown rear of the church, building raised beds, installing compost bins, and fitting water butts to promote water resilience.

We also planted fruit and vegetable beds, with the produce being used to supply the foodbank hosted by the church.

We are excited to return to the site and see the flourishing wildlife habitats we helped create. The garden now features bug hotels, a hedgehog house, and a pond, providing essential resources for local wildlife and enhancing biodiversity.

As we celebrate World Environment Day, we reaffirm our commitment to sustainable practices and community support. Projects like these reflect our dedication to environmental stewardship and our proactive approach to creating resilient, vibrant communities.

By working together, we can make a significant impact on our environment and continue to support initiatives that protect and enhance our natural world. Happy World Environment Day.
