Morrison Water Services cuts carbon while delivering clean water in Yorkshire

Morrison Water Services has been working to improve the delivery of clean water to the people of Yorkshire.

Working with its client, Yorkshire Water, Morrison Water Services (MWS) has worked to reduce its impact on the community while laying 6.5km of water mains through rural land just to the South of Catterick.

Delivering the project one month ahead of schedule, the MWS team avoided the need for road closures and traffic management by using a trenchless solution for all work around road crossings and access roads.

A minimal impact, trenchless method reduced surface disturbance on the rural lanes. By separating existing ground materials and using these to reinstate the excavations, the project reduced impact on the farmland, while resulting in a carbon saving.

Throughout the project, extensive ecological surveys were carried out along the pipeline route to check for protected species.

Carrying out the work during the summer months, sections were completed quickly so that landowners could re-start work on their farmland without lengthy delay.

Throughout the project, landowners were kept updated with the timescales of the project and effort was made to ensure that land was returned to its original state.

Speaking on the project, Anthony Watson, Project Manager at Morrison Water Services, said: “We are delighted to have delivered this project for the community of Catterick. Communication and co-ordination with landowners, farmers and residents was key to a successful project in such a rural area.

“The project team worked extensively to make sure that the disruption to the local community was kept to a minimum, using a contract partner and construction techniques that were sympathetic to the environment. Completing the project ahead of schedule, the land was handed back to landowners as soon as possible, meaning the land could be put back into use quickly.”
