Morrison Water Services deliver STEM lessons

10th June 2022

Andy Carter, Business Services Director of M Group Services’ Water Division, recently visited Ickleford Primary School in Hitchin, Hertfordshire, to deliver lessons as part of the STEMPOINT East’s K’Nex Challenge, a engineering workshop for primary and secondary schools.

The challenge sees Science Technology Engineering Mathematics (STEM) Ambassadors visit schools to deliver lessons about the often unseen yet crucial engineering roles that play a key part in our daily lives. Working in pairs, students were challenged to design and build an engineering structure using the K’Nex kits provided by STEMPOINT East. The challenge, this year, is to build a moving bridge.

Andy said: “The students enthusiastically engaged with the task. It was exceptional to see a variety of designs including curling, rolling bascule, transporter and swing bridges.”

Both classes thoroughly enjoyed the lessons and asked lots of questions about how best to design and construct their structures.

Throughout M Group Services, we are committed to supporting and educating the next generation and helping young people develop their knowledge.

We launched our STEM Ambassadors Network in March this year and are delighted to see our teams interacting with passionate young people who are keen to learn more about STEM and our work. The Network also encourages ambassadors from across the Group to share ideas and experiences with one another.

The network enables us to gain a better understanding of education, raise the profile of both our industry and business, and develop our skills, confidence, and pride in what we deliver.

Back to all.
