Morrison Water Services ex-forces programme wins water industry skills & workforce initiative of the year award

10th September 2020

Morrison Water Services has won the Skills & Workforce Initiative of the Year Award at the Water Industry Awards 2020. The award was presented to MWS via a virtual ceremony in recognition of its focus on attracting, retaining and supporting ex-forces personnel, in turn developing a resilient workforce within the company. Since April 2019, a total of 104 ex-forces personnel have been hired across the organisation. As part of its ongoing commitment to ex-forces recruitment and development, MWS works closely with the Career Transition Partnership (CTP), a partnering agreement between the Ministry of Defence (MoD) and career development and outplacement specialist, Right Management. Rachel Fayers, Utilities Division Head of Human Resources, commented: “This is a fantastic achievement as ex-forces recruitment represents a core activity for Morrison Water Services.

“As a forces-friendly employer we have seen that reservists and veterans can bring valuable transferable skills and help to diversify talent within our organisation. We are committed to attracting, developing and retaining ex-forces personnel into our business, as well as supporting military charities like the Royal Engineers Association (REA) - a truly remarkable cause. We note the effort, dedication and passion which veterans put into their work, and we are proud to have them among our teams.”

Richard Nelson, MWS Training Manager, added: “The strong ex-forces presence within MUS continues to flourish and our ongoing engagement and support has been key to attracting and retaining this talent within our organisation. Our ex-forces people have had an incredibly positive impact on our organisation as they continue to adapt and evolve to their new lives and working environments.

“We are very humbled to have won this award and my thanks goes to all of our people for their continued support. A special thanks to Sean Kelly (Executive Director and Sponsor for Armed Forces at MUS) for his continuous commitment and support.”
