Morrison Water Services improves safety on site with HAUC App

Morrison Water Services is proud to have worked with the Highways Authorities & Utilities Committee (HAUC UK) to develop an app to improve safety and compliance in highways operations.

The HAUC UK app provides operatives in the field and office planners easy access to the Highways Safety Code and other comprehensive documents to support them. Tom Lambert, National Streetworks Manager at Morrison Water Services, was instrumental in providing guidance for the app, which not only aims to encourage improvements in compliance standards and site safety protocols, but also support vulnerable road users through user friendly guides. Recently, the app received recognition at the 2023 Highways Industry Awards, winning the Site Safety Initiative Category.

Morrison Water Services has continued to provide content for the app, which has over 7,000 monthly users. This guidance, which can easily be accessed by all app users, provides bulletin messaging on a range of topics including footpaths, setting out safety zones and how much space is needed for works.

The app is currently being used by Morrison Water Services teams on its Welsh Water and Yorkshire Water contracts, as well as being used by Avonline on its Gigaclear and Virgin contracts.

On site, Morrison Water Services teams have found the app beneficial, particularly the searchable version of the safety code, allowing operatives to access safety documents efficiently and effectively in the field, using their tablets or smartphones.

Speaking on the HAUC App, Tom said: “It all started with a conversation with the Chair of HAUC UK over 5 years ago and has developed into the App we use today. There is still more to do and more functionality we would like to bring to our operatives but the recent recognition by the Highways Industry Awards shows we are on the right track.

“Giving good guidance and assistance in the field on Streetworks issues really brings the support operatives need right to their fingertips. Morrison Water Services is proud to play a significant part in this Apps development and will continue to provide content and guidance well into the future.”
