Morrison Water Services nominated at Safety & Health Excellence Awards 2024

We are thrilled to announce that we have been nominated at the Safety & Health Excellence (SHE) Awards 2024.

The SHE Awards celebrate innovation and achievements in Health & Safety. Winners will be announced at the prestigious ceremony, taking place in Birmingham on 1 May 2024.

We are delighted that our Thames Water Smart Metering, Developer Services and Major Projects Contract has been nominated in two categories. The first nomination is for ‘Best Health & Safety Project,’ where we have been nominated for our ‘Back2Basics’ campaign, an effort to address the issue of electric strikes within the utilities sector.

By focusing on enhancing situational awareness, hazard perception, risk control and introduction of video risk assessment technology, the campaign has resulted in improved workplace safety and the well-being of everyone involved.

Since the launch of the campaign, which has included Safe Start return to work events and hazard spotting exercises, there has been a notable reduction in incidents. Internal incidents related to plumbing work failures has decreased by 21%, indicating improved hazard identification and risk control through this campaign.

Our second nomination is in the ‘Best Driver Risk Management Performance’ category. Over the past year we have seen a decrease in at fault on-road collisions. This has been due to working with M Group Services’ Plant & Fleet Solutions (MGSPFS) to introduce Samsara’s driver app and technology to our fleet vehicles.

This app fosters driver engagement by enabling operatives to access and review their safety dashboard, providing transparency through individual safety scores and comparisons with colleagues.

In addition, Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme (FORS) silver mandatory training is provided to all drivers, addressing work-related road risks. Ensuring driver safety is paramount for staff and the public. We are proud that the proactive measures that we have collaboratively put into place with MGSPFS compliment and prioritise the safety of all involved.
