Morrison Water Services secures six year MEICA framework with Scottish Water

6th July 2021

Morrison Water Services, a part of M Group Services, has been appointed by Scottish Water as a strategic contractor partner to support the delivery of one of Scotland’s biggest capital investment infrastructure programmes.

The initial contract term for the Scottish Water ‘Delivery Vehicle 2’ (DV2) framework is six years and includes the option to extend by a further six years. The DV2 framework was tendered across four Lots, with Morrison Water Services appointed to Lot 4 – Capital Investment for Mechanical Electrical Instrumentation Control and Automation (MEICA).

The scope of activity will include mechanical and electrical (M&E), M&E process interface and specialist instrumentation control and automation services. Typical examples of the projects to be delivered via the framework will include the repair and maintenance of process plant, control panel, pumping station and control system solutions.

Morrison Water Services will work closely with its sister M Group Services business, ID Systems (‘IDS’), to deliver the primarily planned activity covering capital investment projects of up to £2m in value within both water and wastewater environments.

IDS, acquired in 2020 to strengthen M Group Services’ MEICA offering, will deliver a substantial part of the programme, providing expertise, support and resources in design, planning, management and delivery.

It is anticipated that Morrison Water Services and IDS will primarily deliver projects in the southern area of Scotland, with annual investment estimated to increase to over £40m per annum.

Mark Dickson, Scottish Water’s Director of Capital Investment, said: “This represents a significant milestone in the delivery of our service and investment activity. The companies and joint ventures appointed to carry out this work on behalf of Scottish Water will play a vital role in ensuring customers have the most resilient network which brings them water and removes and treats wastewater daily.

“The procurement itself has been a lengthy and rigorous process - the biggest we have ever undertaken. The team at Scottish Water is looking forward to working with our partners to progress our ambitious plans for the next decade and beyond.”

Douglas Millican, Scottish Water’s Chief Executive, said: “We set out our strategic ambitions for the future of the country’s water and waste water services in the face of unprecedented challenges from climate change and aging infrastructure in February 2020.

“Partners will play a critical role in helping us achieve the change needed, on the scale and speed required to meet the dual challenges of providing services the public can rely on and addressing the impact of a changing world climate on our infrastructure.”

John Edwards, Managing Director of the M Group Services Water Division, commented: “We are delighted to have secured this framework award that further strengthens the excellent long-standing partnerships that both Morrison Water Services and IDS have established with Scottish Water over many years.”

Iain Doherty, Managing Director IDS commented; “The specialist MEICA services offered by IDS, along with our off-site manufacturing capabilities and our reputation for developing bespoke design solutions, have undoubtedly played an instrumental role in this contract win and we look forward to working with Morrison Water Services to support Scottish Water’s delivery of this strategic programme of investment.”

Peter Carolan, Executive Director, Morrison Water Services, commented: “This is a significant award for MWS and IDS and demonstrates Scottish Water’s confidence in the team to deliver a programme of complex non infrastructure equipment replacement in support of its SR21 investment programme.”
