Morrison Water Services shortlisted for Techfest Award

Huge congratulations to Morrison Water Services, part of M Group Services Water Division, who alongside its long-term tech partner, Zensar Technologies has been shortlisted in the 2023 Techfest Awards!

The Techfest Awards, powered by Construction News and New Civil Engineer, recognise and reward the projects, teams and companies doing the most to develop innovations and harness technologies that drive the construction and civil engineering industry forward.

Morrison Water Services (MWS) and Zensar have been shortlisted in the Best Use of Technology: Artificial Intelligence category for their innovative technology, Safe Dig AI. Safe Dig AI uses Robotic Process Automation (RPA) and AI to compile packs of utility plans quickly and accurately, in as little as 30 minutes compared with several hours needed previously. The solution then provides planners and field teams with the necessary packs via a user-friendly app.

By using cutting edge technology, Safe Dig AI interprets all existing map data from utility companies, combining and interpreting completely different and disparate maps from many sources into one geo-referenced intelligence model.

Safe Dig AI ensures operatives know exactly what is under the ground before they break into it. Over time, the AI software learns to provide even greater insight through reasoned extrapolation, improving safety. On site, MWS always carries out Cat and Genny scans to validate the results provided, but its accuracy, speed and consistency has been impressive.

MWS first trialled the Safe Dig AI solution in Wales on its Dwr Cymru Welsh Water (DCWW) contract, with positive feedback. MWS is now rolling out Safe Dig AI to teams providing services to Thames Water, before distributing this innovation to other contracts across the UK.

I think this is a great example of how to bring the latest technology to real-life use cases. The resulting Safe Dig AI solution reduces processing time and cost, but importantly helps to keep our people safe. The user interface in the app is particularly neat!”

The awards will take place on 23 November 2023 at the Hilton London Bankside.
