Providing opportunities to develop and grow through our Supervisory Programme

25th April 2024

This week, we’d like to shine a spotlight on Marvyn Harrison, Streetworks Supervisor at Morrison Water Services, who is currently on the brand-new Supervisory Programme and due to complete in June.

The programme, dedicated to frontline managers, enables our people to enhance their skills and gain a better understanding of what being a people manager entails.

Designed to be completed over 12-18 months, the programme consists of seven modules, involving a mixture of virtual and face to face sessions with a trainer from HSP Training & Consultancy Ltd, who we worked in partnership with to create the programme.

To find out more about how the course supported Marvyn, please read below…

Hi Marvyn, how long have you been working for Morrison Water Services?

“I’ve been working for Morrison Water Services (MWS) for over two years now. I previously worked as a Custodial Operations Manager in the prison services for five years, undertaking several roles, including working in the training department for prison officers. I wanted to do something different and started working for MWS as a people manager, before leading into my recent Supervisor role.”

How has the programme developed your knowledge and understanding of being a supervisor?

“The course provides you with a wealth of knowledge and understanding for taking on the supervisor role, including supervising staff, their welfare, and other needs.”

What made you choose this course?

“I want to further my career in the utility sector and love to try new courses to enhance my portfolio. Overall, I thought the course would continue my progress in my supervisor role, gaining experience, with the possibility of developing into becoming a Project Manager.”

What was your overall experience of the course?

“The course is well structured, with very interactive classroom sessions. In addition, the support you get from the HSP team is great. They have all been chosen to deliver the course and ensure it is set up for all learners’ abilities and strengths.

“I can see in the not so distant future this becoming an industry standard for all supervisors across the Division.”

Across M Group Services, we are committed to providing opportunities to attract, retain and develop the next generation of highly skilled, forward thinking and technically competent people.
