Trainees get a taste of life in a metering dig team

28th July 2022

Five trainees on our Morrison Water Services Thames Water contract recently had the opportunity to experience a day in the life of a metering dig team as part of their development.

The trainees worked together during their assessment day, held at the Dartford depot, to fit a meter and complete works on an artificial highway.

Tyrik Minley, Morrison Water Services Trainee Dig Team Operative on the Thames Water contract, said: “I really enjoyed the practical tasks because I’m more of a hands-on type of person, so it made it easier for me to understand. I would recommend this to anybody looking at a particular career they are interested in as you learn on the go which is a great experience.”

Jen Mendelson, Resourcing Manager for M Group Services’ Water Division said: “As these roles are not based on experience and more about attitude and effort, we can assess candidates based on that.

“Holding recruitment days means we become more efficient in our hiring process. Allowing candidates to experience a day in the life means they know exactly what job they are coming to do. As a result, we have become more efficient in our recruiting process as candidates are more likely to stay on in their new roles.”

Morrison Water Services runs a series of training days annually. The next one is in September for trainee internal meter fitters.

M Group Services and its operating businesses want to empower and inspire the younger generation. Our priority is to create an environment in which our people feel valued, supported, and fulfilled. That is why we have a variety of trainee positions, apprenticeships, and graduate schemes on offer.
